About 15 percent of iOS devices are already running Apple's iOS 6, just 24 hours after the company launched its next-generation mobile software platform, new data indicates. Research firm Chitikan Insights reportedly sampled millions of ad impressions over the past couple days, comparing the growth rate of iOS 6 to total iOS device usage, coming out with the 15 percent figure.
For those in the dark, iOS 6 is Apple?s latest and greatest mobile operating system. The new iteration offers more than 300 improvements and new features such as Apple's very own standalone Maps app and Facebook integration. The upgrade also delivers smarter Siri, FaceTime over cellular and Passbook, a virtual wallet app that holds tickets, coupons and gift cards.
As you can see from the graph below, there has been a huge growth in iOS 6 usage just before Apple released iOS 6 Thursday. That growth was due to beta and pre-beta usage of the operating system. The massive spike marks the time which Apple released iOS 6 to the world and as you can see the growth has been pretty staggering.
Significantly, Apple's iOS 5 took five days to breach 20 percent adoption last year. iOS 4, on the other hand, took almost a month to reach that amount. Chitika also points out although Jelly Bean has been released for Android devices since July, though it is only on 1.5 percent of all devices, so 15 percent growth in two days for iOS 6 is pretty massive.
While the roll out is no doubt exciting for users thus far, we have to ask: are you happy with iOS 6? Are you having any issues? Or is iOS 6 Apple's best mobile OS yet?
