Quickly Add Bookmarklets to Safari Using a URL Trick

Quickly Add Bookmarklets to Safari Using a URL TrickQuickly Add Bookmarklets to Safari Using a URL Trick iOS: Safari on iOS doesn't support extensions, which is a bummer if you want to quickly send a page to a read it later service, add an item to an Amazon wishlist, or kick a link over to Evernote. Thankfully, you can emulate this experience with a bookmarklet, and technology blog Digital Inspiration has a huge collection of the most useful bookmarklets for your iOS device.

These bookmarklets are installed in Safari just like bookmarks, but they use a line of JavaScript to behave similar to an extension. You can usually snag these directly from most web services, but Digital Inspiration's list makes it incredibly simple to browse your options and install them on your iOS device. For example, if you use Pocket as a read it later service, you can install the Add to Pocket bookmarklet to instantly add pages to your Pocket directly from Safari. Here's how to do it:

  1. Head over to Digital Inspiration's master list and select the bookmarklet you want to install from Safari.
  2. Tap the arrow button next to the URL bar and select "Bookmark."
  3. Tap the bookmark button, and then "Edit."
  4. Tap the bookmark you just created, and remove the URL and hashtag before the JavaScript (it will be something like: ctrlq.org/ios?readability#).

That's it. When you have the bookmarklets set up you can instantly do a bunch of different functions directly in Safari. If you're using Safari on your computer and have syncing enabled, you can also add them there. Head over to Digital Inspiration for the full list of bookmarklets.
