Reward grows in Delavan golf course turtle killing

The reward keeps growing in the quest to crack the case of a snapping turtle beaten to death on a Delavan golf course.

The Watertown-based Global Conservation Group added $2,000 to its initial reward of $1,000, and the Rock County Humane Society added $200, the Janesville Gazette reported Wednesday.

That, combined with a $5,000 reward posted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, brings the reward to $8,200.

The female snapping turtle died a week ago following a June 10 attack at the Delbrook Golf Course that left holes in her shell. It appears the turtle was trying to lay her eggs when she was hit repeatedly, possibly with a golf club.

The state Department of Natural Resources has not received many credible tips in the case and continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call the DNR Hotline at (800) TIP-WDNR or (800) 847-9367.
